About the Saudi riyal and the US dollar
The Saudi riyal (SAR) is the currency of Saudi Arabia, issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA). The riyal has been pegged to the US dollar at 3.75 riyals per dollar since 1986.
The US dollar (USD, $) is the currency of the United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama (alongside the balboa) and several other countries, issued by the Federal Reserve. The US dollar floats freely and is the world's main reserve currency; most other currencies are quoted against it.
Because of the peg, the SAR to USD rate stays practically fixed; only the fees and margins charged by banks and exchange offices change.
