Frequently asked questions
Should I tip on the total with tax?
Etiquette experts generally say tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is fine. Tipping on the total is more generous; the difference is small.
How do I split a bill unevenly?
Calculate the tip percentage once, then apply it to each person's own items. For an even split, just set the number of people.
How do I calculate a 20% tip in my head?
Move the decimal point one place to get 10%, then double it. On a $64 bill, 10% is $6.40, so 20% is $12.80. For 15%, add half of the 10% figure: $6.40 + $3.20 = $9.60.
