How to use the Visa-Free Countries Checker

  1. 1Choose your passport (nationality) from the list.
  2. 2Optionally choose a destination for an instant answer.
  3. 3Open your passport's page for the complete list of visa-free, visa-on-arrival, eTA and e-Visa countries.

What the visa categories mean

Visa-free: you can enter with just your passport for a set number of days. Visa on arrival: you get the visa at the airport or border, sometimes for a fee. eTA: a quick online travel authorization you must get before flying (like the US ESTA, UK ETA, or Canada eTA). e-Visa: an online visa application you must get approved before travel. Visa required: you must apply at an embassy or visa center in advance.

Always double-check before you travel

Entry rules change, and they can depend on the purpose of your trip, how long your passport is valid (often at least 6 months), onward tickets and proof of funds. Use this tool to plan, then confirm with the destination's official embassy or immigration website before booking.

Before you book

  • Check passport validity: many countries require 6 months beyond your departure date and at least one blank page.
  • Visa-free still has conditions: onward tickets, proof of funds and accommodation may be checked at the border.
  • Count your days: visa-free stays are usually 30–90 days; in Europe use the Schengen 90/180 calculator.
  • Transit counts too: some countries require a transit visa even if you don't leave the airport.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the visa data come from?

We use the open Passport Index dataset, which tracks requirements for 199 passports and is updated regularly. The date of the last update is shown on every page.

Do visa-free countries count visa on arrival?

Our 'easy access' score counts visa-free, visa on arrival and eTA destinations, which is how most passport rankings measure passport power. Each category is listed separately so you can see the difference.

Does a visa-free entry let me work?

No. Visa-free entry is almost always for tourism or short business visits only. Working or studying usually requires a specific visa.
