The Chinese yuan (CNY, ¥) is the currency of mainland China, issued by the People's Bank of China. The yuan (renminbi) trades in a managed band around a daily reference rate set by the People's Bank of China.
The US dollar (USD, $) is the currency of the United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama (alongside the balboa) and several other countries, issued by the Federal Reserve. The US dollar floats freely and is the world's main reserve currency; most other currencies are quoted against it.
