China Visa Photo requirements

  • For the online visa application: 354 × 472 to 420 × 560 pixels, JPEG, 40–120 KB.
  • Printed size 33 mm wide × 48 mm high; head 28–33 mm tall.
  • White or near-white background, no glasses, ears visible where possible.

How to take a good photo at home

  • Stand about 1–2 m from a plain, light wall with even light from the front (a window works well); avoid shadows behind you.
  • Ask someone to take the photo at eye level, with your head and the top of your shoulders in the frame.
  • Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and both eyes open; remove glasses and hats (religious head coverings are usually allowed if your face is fully visible).
  • Drop the photo above; the tool centres and crops it to the right shape and size.

Printing your photo

To print, place the 420 × 560 pixel image on a 4 × 6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photo at 300 dpi and print it at a photo kiosk, then cut it to 33 × 48 mm. Many official applications now prefer the digital file, so check whether you need a print at all.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a china visa photo in pixels?

We create it at 420 × 560 pixels, which prints at 33 × 48 mm at 300 dpi and stays under 120 KB.

Can I take a passport photo with my phone?

Yes, for most digital applications. Use good front lighting, a plain light background and ask someone else to take it at eye level. Some countries still require photos from a professional photographer.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The cropping and resizing happen in your browser and the photo never leaves your device.
