Resize before you compress
Phone photos are often 4000 pixels wide or more. Resizing to 1920 pixels wide before uploading usually cuts the file size by 70–80% with no visible difference on screens, and makes compression work even better.
Frequently asked questions
Will resizing distort my image?
No. The aspect ratio is preserved, so the image is scaled to fit within the width and height you set.
Can I make an image bigger?
This tool only scales images down, because enlarging adds no real detail and makes images blurry.
What size should a passport photo be?
It depends on the country: US passport photos are 2 × 2 inches (600 × 600 pixels for online applications), while UK, Schengen and many other countries use 35 × 45 mm. Always check the official requirements.
