Why SMS length drops to 70

Standard SMS uses a 7-bit alphabet that fits 160 characters. Adding a single emoji or a character outside that alphabet (such as Arabic, Urdu or Chinese) switches the whole message to Unicode, which fits only 70 characters, so a long message is split into more parts.
